REPERTORY Philippines (REP) takes the stage in full force for its 87th season. A first since 2019, the renowned theater company is back with a full lineup

The 87th season, themed around the profound universality of love and yearning, kicks off with the Manila premiere of “Betrayal,” a masterpiece by British theater icon Harold Pinter. It will feature London-based Filipino actors James Bradwell, James Cooney, and Vanessa White with Jef Flores and Regina De Vera as covers.

Running from March 1 to 17, this production explores the consequences of an extramarital affair through a reverse-chronological narrative structure. Directed by Victor Lirio, this marks REP’s first venture into Pinter’s works and promises a unique theatrical experience.

In June, REP goes off-Broadway with “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” a delightful musical by Joe Di Pietro and Jimmy Roberts. This lighthearted revue, running from June 7 to 30, delves into the complexities of love and relationships with a whirlwind cast of characters, offering a comedic exploration of dating, marriage, and family dynamics.

Directed by Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, the production ensures a seamless blend of humor and music, featuring-creatives such as Ejay Yatco for musical direction and Joey Mendoza for set design.

The season continues to highlight Filipino storytelling with the Repertory Theater for Young Audiences (RTYA) presenting “Jepoy and the Magic Circle,” which will premiere in the last quarter of the year. This children’s musical, directed by Joy Virata, adapts a story by Gilda Cordero Fernando, brings young audiences on a whimsical journey into the world of kapres, aswangs, and tikbalangs, while delivering a meaningful message about empathy and caring for the planet.

Closing the 2024 season in November until December, REP presents its firstever original jukebox musical, “Going Home to Christmas,” featuring the music of Jose Mari Chan. Directed by Leo Rialp, with assistant director Jeremy Domingo, the musical promises a heartwarming experience for the whole family with Chan’s timeless melodies.

What makes the 2024 season extra special is REP’s nostalgic return to the Carlos P. Romulo Theater in RCBC Plaza, where they inaugurated the theater in 2001.

REP President and CEO Mindy PerezRubio expresses excitement about the upcoming season, stating, “This new REP season is going to be one for the books. We’re back and stronger than ever since the pandemic, ready for a new chapter with a fresh lineup of carefully curated productions and the initiation of The Bridge Project.”
