Consumer group endorses Valencia for Mindoro vice governor

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro: A consumer group that advances power and energy concerns endorsed a scion of a political family here for vice governor during a forum on flood mitigation and agricultural potentials of the province.

Formally endorsed by the Alliance of Stakeholders for Sufficient and Affordable Power (Assap) was Joanna Marie Valencia, the only daughter of former governor and former representative Rodolfo Valencia.

Former vice mayor and now Socorro town councilor Dr. Marvin Umbao, during the open forum, suggested the younger Valencia. He said the Valencia family has always been at the forefront of advancing the interests of the people of Mindoro.

“Maraming beses na po tayong lumapit sa ating mga namumuno, lalo na dito sa problema natin sa kuryente at mga pagbaha, pero puro lamang naman pangako ang ibinibigay sa atin. Hanggang ngayon ay wala namang malinaw na aksyon (We repeatedly approached our local officials on our problem on power and flooding but all they gave were promises. Until now, there is no clear action),” Umbao said.

The elder Valencia, who is also the chairman of Assap, said that they were caught unaware of the endorsement claiming that they would still discuss the matter among family members.

“You all know that my daughter ran for representative of the second district, but we lost. But after that, people keep on coming to us for help. [Joanna] is nagging me why after our loss in the elections and knowing the promises of the people who won, people are still seeking the family’s intervention,” Valencia said.

The younger Valencia was in tears when asked to react to the endorsement.

“It is true that I am always asking my dad RGV what had happened to the promises of the elected officials. Why despite our not being part of the local government, people are still coming to us for help,” she said.

“I am overwhelmed by this endorsement but we will discuss this with the family,” added Joanna.

According to the grapevines, current vice governor Ejay Falcon is eyeing the congressional seat of the second district as he has reportedly registered as a voter in Pinamalayan town.

Reports have it that former vice governor Atty. Antonio Perez is also eyeing the vice gubernatorial seat along with a certain Atty. Mong de la Fuente.
