- TMT

SM Foundation Inc. (SMFI) is accepting applications for college scholarships for the Academic Year 20242025 from today, February 1, until March 31, 2024.

The SM college scholarship program, started by SM founder and philanthropist Henry “Tatang” Sy Sr., has changed the lives of almost 4,000 graduates by giving them the tools they need to develop their careers and break the cycle of poverty that affects their families for generations.

The SM college scholarship carries on the vision of the SM Group founder and helps senior high school graduates from both public and private schools. It is open to students pursuing Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Accounting and Education degrees at partner colleges and universities nationwide.

Applicants from private schools should be Department of Education (DepEd) voucher beneficiaries who completed Grade 10 in a public school.

Successful applicants will receive full tuition coverage, monthly allowance and part-time job opportunities within the SM Group during semestral breaks.

Beyond academics, scholars are immersed in activities that foster personal development and teamwork, ensuring they emerge as well-rounded individuals prepared for the real world.

Taking the first step

One of the many students who braved last year’s application and is currently dedicated to improving her family’s quality of life by pursuing her studies is Cyril Anne Tatoy.

“The application process was easy, considering that the submission of requirements and the qualifying exam took place online, from the comfort of our homes. Little did I realize that a simple click on my phone would wield such an extraordinary opportunity to partake in a life-changing scholarship grant,” Tatoy says.

Tatoy is enrolled at the University of San Jose-Recoletos to become a science educator. For her, the scholarship provided her with freedom from financial worries and allowed her to focus on her studies fully.

“I encourage you to view the scholarship application as a reflection of your dedication, capability and discipline in your studies. It is crucial to approach this opportunity with integrity and honesty throughout the application process. Your genuine intentions will undoubtedly pave the way for heartfelt success, aligning with the vision you have for your future. Remember, qualifying for this scholarship is not just a privilege but a true blessing that can turn your aspirations into reality,” she tells aspiring scholars.

Since its inception in 1993, SMFI has remained steadfast in providing quality education to determined students like Tatoy, aiming to uplift Filipino families, one scholar at a time.
