DOT REVIVES PHILIPPINE TOURISM AWARDS

- MOISES CRUZ

THE Department of Tourism (DoT) relaunched on Friday the Philippine Tourism Awards (PTA) to encourage and promote industry excellence and recognize the quality and ongoing support of industry stakeholders, institutions and partners.

“Through the Philippine Tourism Awards, we aim to give recognition to institutions, individuals, pillars, change-makers, and trailblazers in the various sectors of tourism that have contributed greatly to the fact that tourism is now one of the strongest pillars of our economy, providing jobs to millions of Filipinos and providing much-needed livelihood and employment in communities across the country,” Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said.

“By reviving this program that recognizes the work of our partners in the tourism industry, we foster the improvement of the quality of tourism services across the country,” she added.

The PTA has been developed as the most distinguished citation in Philippine tourism.

DoT’s rebranding of the former Kasama sa Lakbay Kaunlaran ng Bayan (Kalakbay) Awards and Tourism Star Philippines aims to make the PTA the pinnacle and most prestigious accolade in the realm of Philippine tourism, paying tribute to the past while recognizing the tourism industry’s present and future achievements as the engine of economic growth.

Frasco noted that the program also seeks to recognize the work of great industry players and local governments that have excelled in promoting and strengthening the country’s tourism sector.

This year’s first PTA will feature two major categories: the Philippine Tourism Industry Awards and the Philippine Tourism Pillar Awards.

As part of the DoT’s 50th anniversary celebrations, the Philippine Tourism Pillars Awards will recognize tourism sector pioneers and organizations.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Tourism Industry Awards will be a regular national award event for both the corporate and governmental sectors involved in developing and marketing Philippine tourism.

For each call for applications, the DoT will release an official announcement on the award category roster.
