Bulacan to step up war vs illegal drugs

- BY FREDERICK SILVERIO

CITY OF MALOLOS: Dead serious about his bid to make Bulacan safer and peaceful, Gov. Daniel Fernando said he will give directives to law enforcement authorities to go after peddlers of all forms of illegal drugs, notably shabu, marijuana and cocaine.

“We need to be vigilant against the proliferations of shabu, marijuana and cocaine here [in the province],” said Fernando during the first-quarter joint meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council, Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council and the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF-Elcac) on Thursday, February 1, at the Bulacan Convention Center here.

“While we do not have [an] ordinance yet, I’ll give my directives regarding the checkpoints to see to it that no illegal drugs will enter the province,” added Fernando.

The governor expressed his gratitude for the ongoing support extended by each member of the council and stressed the importance of unity in order to maintain and achieve the councils’ goals for this year.

“There is so much to be done and together we can achieve many things,” said Fernando. “Our main goal in Bulacan has always been peace and security.”

The meeting focused on the possible challenges that Bulacan may encounter as the year unfolds as well as the actions that the councils would have to take to resolve it.

In order to have a clearer view, the Bulacan Police Provincial Office, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Bulacan, PTF-Elcac, the

Philippine Army’s 70th Infantry Battalion, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government Bulacan also presented essential steps to sustain the implementation of peace and order programs in the province.

This includes the implementation of drug clearing programs in barangay (villages), conduct of checkpoints and enactment of local ordinances to enhance traffic law enforcement.

Before concluding the meeting, certificates of recognition were awarded to the provincial government of Bulacan for being the recipient of the Seal of Good Local Governance and passing the ideal rating in the 2023 Local Council for the Protection of Children Functionality Assessment and the Local Committees on Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and Children.
