MMPC OFFICIALLY LAUNCHES ALL-NEW TRITON

- JOHN REY SAN DIEGO

MITSUBISHI Motor Philippines Corp. (MMPC) formally launched the allnew Mitsubishi Triton on Jan. 26, 2024, at the Bridgetowne Destination Estate in Pasig City.

Bid farewell to the Strada nameplate; the latest generation Mitsubishi pickup truck not only introduces a new badge but also a completely redesigned package aimed at satisfying customers seeking a stylish truck adaptable to various lifestyles.

Among the numerous changes in Mitsubishi’s flagship pickup truck model, the exterior design stands out. Featuring the latest iteration of the dynamic shield design front fascia, the allnew Triton embraces an overall boxy geometrical shape that seamlessly blends robustness with refinement in its exterior details.

Powering the allnew Mitsubishi pickup truck is an updated version of the 2.4liter twostage turbocharged diesel MIVEC engine, delivering 204 hp and 470 Nm of torque to the wheels. The revamped power plant is complemented by enhanced traction from the allnew chassis and suspension designs, contributing to improved overall riding comfort.

The redesigned chassis not only enhances interior space but also expands cargo capacity. According to MMPC, the Triton’s cargo bed effortlessly accommodates a standard euro pallet horizontally. Additionally, the new chassis design results in a lower bed floor for easier cargo loading.

The proprietary SuperSelect 4WD II system is a notable feature, allowing convenient frontwheel differential engagement and differential lock engagement on the fly. With seven drive modes for different terrains, the allnew Triton demonstrates versatility and improved performance.

Drawing from its rally racing heritage, Mitsubishi equips its latest pickup truck with the Active Yaw Control (AYC) system, derived from the rally championshipwinning lineage of Mitsubishi Evolution models. Ensuring safety, MMPC said that the Triton has received the highest fivestar rating from the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries.

In terms of safety features, the allnew Triton now includes advanced driver assistance systems such as a multiaround view monitor, blind spot warning with lane change assist, forward collision mitigation, automatic high beam, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Setting it apart from its predecessor are two new color options: Blade Silver and the Athlete exclusive Yamabuki Orange. Regarding pricing, the newest addition to the local Mitsubishi lineup starts at P1.134 million and goes up to P1.909 million for the topoftheline Athlete 4WD AT (automatic transmission) variant.
