Stargazer receives X factor(s)

- BY JOHN REY SAN DIEGO

HYUNDAI Motor Philippines (HMPH) welcomed the last quarter of 2023 WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF ITS REfiNED multipurpose vehicle (MPV) lineup. One of the models introduced then is the Hyundai Stargazer X, an iteration with rugged-ready STYLING YET REfiNED INTERIOR DESIGN. THE IMPROVED 7-seater MPV holds promise to prolong the good run its original model started.

HMPH invited a select group of motoring media on a drive to Clark, Pampanga, to better appreciate the latest edition of its popular MPV model.

At first glance, the updates that the Stargazer X received are easy to spot, adding character to the seven-seater Hyundai. The exclusive 17-inch alloy wheels and the fender fairings are two dead giveaways when comparing the Stargazer X to its base.

The front fascia also received updates in the form of a 3D stacked model front grille, a new front bumper design, and a new hood design featuring bold lines found only in the new Stargazer X. Further separating the new model from its base is its blacked-out roof, giving it a sportier appeal.

Moving to the rear, the latest Hyundai MPV features an X exclusive rear roof wing that adds a sporty appeal, while its tailgate garnish ensures that you get the Stargazer X and not the base model.

Inside is still the same cabin loved in the original Stargazer model, with spacious leg and headroom, even up to the third-row seats. What sets it apart from the base model is its blackedout interior with subtle red stitch accents that complement the rugged and sporty exterior appeal. It’s also worth noting that the updated instrument panel console made it to the X model — a warmly welcomed update, as the huge instrument panel console was my only gripe about the previous base Stargazer.

Another notable update that separates the X from the base is its new safety features. Like its bigger Staria brethren, the Stargazer X now comes with Hyundai SmartSense, a suite of safety and driving assist features that add value to the seven-seater MPV. Safety features such as lane-keeping assist, high beam assist, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, and more are now standard on the new Stargazer X.

Driving the latest edition Hyundai MPV feels like the same Stargazer that I first fell in love with — the same refined and quiet cabin ride, only safer. I really appreciate that its SafetySense alerts are helpful and not irritating at all. Being able to maintain smooth driving dynamics despite the larger wheels and taller ground clearance at 200 mm is commendable. It was able to gain “pogi” (handsome) points without suffering any consequences.

So, is going for a Stargazer X actually worth it? If you factor in that it is just less than a P100K difference between the topspec Stargazer and the X, I believe that the latter is worthy to be considered. If you are the type who wants something nice out of the dealership and values safety more than anything, the Stargazer X might fit as your next MPV purchase.
