- DENNIS ABRINA

SILANG, Cavite: The local government of Silang under Mayor Kevin Anarna has donated P1 million for the repair and preservation of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria — the oldest church in the town.

Mayor Anarna, a lawyer, led the formal turnover of the cash assistance to the church during the Silangueño night held at the Ballroom of Garden Gazebo Event Place in 7180 Aguinaldo Highway, Barangay Lucsuhin here on February 1.

Mayor Anarna said the donation embodies a deep desire to preserve the history and importance of the church whose name has long been giving light and inspiration to the entire Silang community.

The restoration is an utter show of valuing the cultural wealth and history of the said Roman Catholic church built in 1595, making it the oldest church in the province of Cavite.

“Our church is not just a building; it is a symbol of our history and faith. By working together, we can show our love for our culture and faith,” said Anarna.

Rev. Fr. Earl Gabriel Salazar Tan delivered a message of gratitude on behalf of parish priest Rev. Fr. Luisito Gatdula for the donation.

The donation is expected to support projects aimed at preserving the structure and values of this church, which contains many memories and stories of the town of Silang and the entire province of Cavite.

Under the Anarna administration, the local government of Silang will continue to promote projects aimed at preserving and growing the wealth of culture and history of the town, Anarna said in his social media post.
