TACLOBAN CITY: Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Regional Director Gualberto Gualberto has announced that the region is 99-percent compliant with the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).

Speaking in a media forum on Wednesday, February 7, at the Avenue Hotel in Tacloban City, Gualberto expressed gratitude to local officials in Eastern Visayas as well as commuters for their support for public utility vehicle modernization.

“There is a favorable comment on the modernization program, in which passengers particularly like the comfortable trip as there are cozy seats, safety because of CCTV cameras, modern vehicles and there is no black smoke,” Gualberto said.

“We assure you that if there are any complaints about the operators, the LTFRB Region 8 (Eastern Visayas) will take action,” he added.

The PUVMP is the government’s response to both the country’s current transportation difficulties and its future transportation demands.

The program intends to significantly change the country’s public transportation system, making commuting and public transportation operations more dignified, humane and compliant with global standards.

The initiative also aspires to provide a comfortable living for all Filipinos by creating a safer, more efficient, dependable, convenient, cheap, climate-friendly and environmentally sustainable transport system in the country.

“Traditional jeepneys can continue to operate as long as they are part of a cooperative,” Gualberto said.

Gualberto encouraged the remaining individual operators to join cooperatives in order to enjoy the program’s benefits, such as PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, Social Security System, 13th-month pay and a fixed salary every month
