- DEXTER A SEE

Peter Ng, chairman of the 2024 Spring festival Executive Committee, said that the relationship between the Chinese and the Filipinos in the city remains strong because of a long established partnership.

Ng said that Filipino-Chinese residents in the city are committed to sustaining the partnership that had been nurtured with home-grown residents. Such a relationship, he added, will not be directly affected by the maritime dispute between the Philippines and China.

The Baguio Filipino-Chinese community has been a partner of the local government in the annual celebration of the Spring Festival or the Chinese Lunar New Year in the past 26 years.

Ordinance 18, series of 1999, institutionalized the annual celebration of the Spring Festival which will be spearheaded by the local government in partnership with the various organizations of Filipino-Chinese living in the city.

The Spring Festival celebration was launched on Monday, February 5, during the regular flag raising ceremony at the city hall grounds to usher in the Year of the Wooden Dragon.

Aside from the barangay gift-giving that commenced Friday, February 2, WHERE 100 beneficiaries from Barangay Ambiong and San Antonio Village received their presents from the Filipino-Chinese community, the public will have a glimpse of Little Chinatown along Session Road on February 11 and 18.

The traditional Chinese Lunar New Year parade will be held on Tuesday, February 13, at 2:30 p.m., along the Session road, Magsaysay Avenue, Harrison Road and end up at the Melvin Jones grandstand.

The celebration will be capped by the usual dinner awards where the Baguio Filipino-Chinese community will be giving recognitions to identified outstanding residents who had been supporting the cause of the said community through the years.
