Alaminos aims to go high-tech
ALAMINOS — a 4th class component city in Pangasinan and is known for being the home of the beautiful Hundred Islands National Park — has entered into an agreement with the Department of Science and Technology (DoST) and the Pangasinan State University (PSU) in its bid to become a “future-ready” city.
With the collaboration, DoST Region 1 will provide technical expertise, support, and access to cutting-edge technologies to drive innovation and sustainability in the city, as DoST regional director Dr. Teresita Tabaog cited the importance of science, technology and innovation (STI) for the benefit of communities.
Towards this end, the DoST, the Alaminos local government unit (LGU), and the PSU signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the implementation of the transformative Smart and Sustainable Communities Program (SSCP) on Wednesday, February 7, at the Don Leopoldo Sison Convention Center.
This groundbreaking partnership marks a significant step towards harnessing STI to enhance the quality of life of communities and streamline public services in Alaminos City.
The MoU signing was led by Alaminos City Mayor Arth Bryan Celeste and PSU President Elbert Galas represented by Dr. Razeale Resultay, vice president of Research, Extension and Innovation Office, and was witnessed by Vice Mayor Jan Marionne Fontalera, DoST 1 provincial director Engr. Arnold Santos, and Dr. Betchie Aguinaldo, Business Intelligence Research and Development Center director of Isabela State University-Cauayan.
The Alaminos LGU will facilitate the implementation by working closely with PSU to integrate smart and sustainable infrastructure and systems seamlessly into the urban landscape.
Mayor Celeste, a DoST 1 science ambassador, reaffirmed his commitment to be one with the regional Science and Technology department with its initiatives by harnessing the power of STI to address pressing urban challenges and to improve the wellbeing of the Filipino citizens.
The SSCP is a DoST strategy integrating the STI for Accelerating Regional Technology-Based Development (iStart) for a more holistic and inclusive approach to leverage advanced technologies and data-driven solutions to address the challenges, promote sustainability, and improve overall governance as Alaminos starts its journey to become a smart and sustainable city, and inclusive development in the region.
This represents the testament of DoST 1 to promote STI and partnerships with its LGUs and state universities and colleges in shaping a brighter future for the communities in the region, embracing the opportunities of the digital age, and emerging as a beacon of smart and sustainable community.
