DSWD seeks to end conflict in Central Luzon
DEPARTMENT of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rexlon “Rex” Gatchalian urged key stakeholders to take an active role in promoting peace and development in Central Luzon at the first quarterly meeting of the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-Elcac) 3 on Thursday, February 8.
“I am pleased to note that we gather here not only as government officials but also as representatives of the communities we serve with a common purpose that is to put an end to the local communist armed conflict that has long hindered the nation’s progress,” Gatchalian said.
Gatchalian presided over the quarterly RTF-Elcac meeting and thanked all stakeholders for their shared commitment to promoting long-term peace, security, and sustainable development in Central Luzon.
“Our presence here underscores our shared commitment to fostering lasting peace, security, and sustainable development in Central Luzon,” Gatchalian said.
The RTF-Elcac quarterly meeting provided an opportunity for member agencies to highlight the regional task force’s accomplishments over the previous year, present the security situation report, and reflect on potential next steps for the implementation of various peace and development initiatives in Region 3.
Gatchalian underscored the necessity of taking a complete strategy, including aligning activities with the national agenda and implementing an adaptable and flexible organizational structure.
“We must gain an understanding and align ourselves with the national roadmap,” Gatchalian said.
“I acknowledge that the orientation of the NTF-Elcac roadmap is crucial for the success of our regional efforts, as this will provide us with valuable insights and guidance as we work collaboratively towards ending local communist armed conflict in Central Luzon,” he added.
Gatchalian also pointed out the need for “ensuring communities have access to education, health care, and job opportunities, creating an environment conducive to growth and stability.”
The signing of the relief prepositioning agreement between the DSWD and Central Luzon’s local government units (LGUs) was also on the agenda of the meeting.
