Miss Universe PH-Leyte to start preparation soon for bigger stage
TACLOBAN CITY: The organizers and major sponsors of Miss Universe Philippines-Leyte joined the city folk as they wished Angel Rose Tambal good luck during a sendoff party on Thursday, February 15, at the Asia Stars Hotel in downtown Tacloban.
The 25-year-old Tambal, a civil engineer from the municipality of La Paz, was named Miss Universe Philippines-Leyte last October after surpassing 20 other candidates from the province and will now represent the province in the Manila showpiece.
Tambal is seen in an elegant dress with figures of the San Juanico Bridge, the Provincial Capitol, and the historic Leyte Landings as she answered questions by media people.
“What I could do during the pageant is show the people a visual representation of Leyte and tell them our story of resilience,” Tambal told The Manila Times.
“We, the Leyteños, want the entire nation to know that we have survived,” she added.
Tambal won two major prizes in Leyte — Best in Swimwear and Best in Evening Gown, and three corporate prizes.
She will compete in the Miss Universe competition in May to represent the province.
“I believe my greatest advantage is that I am a new face in this type of national competition, so people will get to know me and what I am capable of,” Tambal said.
“However, in my opinion, Alexie Brooks (Iloilo City) has an edge because she portrays a strong image of a Filipino woman,” she told reporters, citing her toughest opponent in the pageant.
She also graced the stage with the “Yolanda” walk, in reference to the 2013 super typhoon that hit Eastern Visayas.
“I will give my all in the pageant, focusing on being the best version of myself for Leyteños across the country,” said Tambal.
