Korean coffee group, TSU ink partnership
A South Korean coffee organization has signed a partnership agreement with Tarlac State University (TSU) to promote excellence in the field of coffee business and education.
The agreement was sealed during a recent institutional visit of Asian Coffee Union (ACU) executives at the TSU, where a memorandum of understanding was signed with the university’s College of Business and Accountancy (CBA), College of Science and College of Education (CoEd) to pave the way for the project.
TSU President Arnold Velasco led the warm welcome to the ACU delegation composed of four coffee experts who came all the way from South Korea — the world’s coffee capital.
The partnership will focus on conducting activities that include laboratory sharing, faculty and student training, extension activities, cultural exchange programs and research collaborations.
The event also opened doors for international seminar-workshop on coffee industries with ACU along with TSU’s Office of International Affairs and Linkages (OIAL) CBA, CoEd and COS together with the participation of small and medium business enterprises in Tarlac City.
South Korea’s Jiyoung Lee vowed his total support to the venture and offered the international linkages opportunities from the country’s higher education institutions and organizations for TSU through its OIAL headed by its director, Maria Vanessa Palafox-Arador.
Lee is an attached faculty lecturer in the College of Arts and Social Sciences and College of Education. With her multi-degree credentials in psychology, art, theology and education, she teaches Korean language and early childhood education courses.
After the signing of the agreement, a tour at the colleges and in other TSU facilities, like Café Lucinda and Library, was done.
ACU also donated books on coffee education for the university library in an expression of bringing with them their value for generosity.
