DSWD Region 11 receives food packs

- MOISES CRUZ

THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office (FO)-11 received the shipment of 40,800 family food packs (FFPs) on Sunday, February 18, at the Globalports Davao Terminal, in accordance with the continued disaster relief activities in Davao Region.

The National Resource and Logistics Management Bureau (NRLMB) of the DSWD Central Office loaded the FFPs into BRP Davao del Sur (LD602) of the Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao (NFEM) at Pier 15, Port Area of Manila, on February 11.

DSWD Secretary Rexlon “Rex” Gatchalian previously coordinated the continuous supply of relief aid to Mindanao in one of the agency’s most important disaster response initiatives, in accordance with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s lead to guarantee that no disaster-affected families would be left behind.

DSWD Assistant Secretary Romel Lopez said on Monday that the FFPs will be distributed to families affected by the shear line and the trough of a low pressure area (LPA).

“Our Davao Field Office has started the hauling of the FFPs to its warehouse, and these will be ready for pick-up by requesting local government units (LGUs) affected by the inclement weather in the region,” Lopez said.

“We are coordinating closely with the affected LGUs to ensure that they have enough relief aid to distribute to their affected constituents,” he added.

At press time, the DSWD Davao Regional Office has already distributed 145,895 food and nonfood items (FNFIs) totaling P238,993,568 to shear line-affected families in the region, while 221,835 FNFIs worth P148,634,722.60 were provided to LPA trough-affected families.

The DSWD will continue to monitor the situation of families affected by disasters in Mindanao and will offer assistance programs and resource augmentation to local governments as needed.
