In Rizal’s honor, young PH wizards star in DoSTv program
THIS year’s Department of Science and Technology Television (DoSTv) science program, “ExperTalk,” epitomizes Philippine national hero Jose Rizal’s well-known quote, “The youth is the hope of the nation,” with features of young Filipino achievers.
Young wizards star in the new season of the program for 2024, showcasing how promising, rosy and hopeful the future is in the hands of the latest and young generation of scientists, researchers and innovators.
“Science knows no age. At an early age, one can be an achiever when it comes to science and technology. Being a researcher does not entail a PhD. Even with a college degree, one can already help, and [these researchers] can contribute greatly to problems in the community,” “ExperTalk” young host AJ Castro said.
The pilot episode on March 2, 2024, features 17-yearold World International Math Olympiad 2023 gold medalist Princess Abbey Cziarah Aquino, who also happens to be a singer and pageant winner.
‘Miracle baby’
For eight years, Aquino’s parents struggled to conceive a child due to old age, irregular ovulation and low sperm count. They had all the reasons to lose hope, but every time life brought them down, they knelt deeper in prayer.
Mom Suzette and dad Abraham said they fervently prayed for her coming, as the previous pregnancy did not push through when the fetus lost its heartbeat.
After eight years of trusting and believing in the Lord’s plan, their daughter was born. Princess’ birth was already a blessing, but it became even more special when she grew up kind, wise and beautiful.
“When I was born, they [my parents] were very thankful, and I’m also grateful to them. I try to not only be a good daughter to them but also to God,” the young wizard, who is also an active choir member of the church, said.
Besides heartwarming stories of so-called geeks and geniuses, “ExperTalk” also features mini-lectures and quick learning sessions that teach mathematical formulas and scientific concepts in a more childfriendly and easy-to-understand way. With this, young audiences tune in for entertainment and informative and instructional content.
In the succeeding episodes, the program will feature more young blood who have already made major strides in science, technology and innovation.
“ExperTalk” airs on PTV-4 every Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sundays at 10:30 a.m.
