A THIRD-YEAR International Studies student from Cavite State University (CvSU) is set to be part of the organizing committee for the IMUN 2024 in Vietnam this March and a delegate of the UN Security Council representing the United Kingdom at the University of Santo Tomas MUN.

Glenise Celis of the College of Economics, Management and Development Studies (CEMDS) joins the organizing committee after being named “Best Delegate” of Unesco during the International Model United Nations (IMUN) Philippines 2023 at the University of Asia and the Pacific in Pasig City last November 8-10.

The Best Delegate award is given to the delegate who performs, prepares, and is the most knowledgeable in the entire committee. The best delegate receives the gavel that the chairs use to moderate debates, thus termed “Gaveling.”

Celis is an officer of the CvSUCEMDS International Studies Students’ Association, according to CEMDS dean Dr. Mariel Mojica.

News posted on the CvSU website said the student leader has “taken the challenge to ‘inspire change and transform the world.’”

During the IMUN conferences, participants assume the roles of diplomats representing different countries and engaging in discussions and negotiations.

As a simulation of the UN, conferences provide a platform for youth participants to gain more insights into international relations and discuss and come up with diplomatic solutions to complex global issues. These also enable them, mostly students, to enhance their public speaking and critical thinking skills.

IMUN is part of a wider group called Global Young Leaders Model United Nations (Glymun). Its core values revolve around Diplomacy (Diplomatia), Unity (Unire) and Empowerment (Potentiam).
