IFSU charts future based on strategic foresight
THE Ifugao State University (IFSU) has charted its preferred futures for two decades, guided by Futures Thinking (FT) and Strategic Foresight (SF) methodologies focused on internationalization: global reputation, global branding, academic mobility and strategic partnership.
IFSU said the workshop on February 15 at the Multipurpose Hall in its Lamut Campus, dubbed “IFSU in the Global Stage: Sustainability and Internationalization through Futures Thinking and Strategic Foresight,” was aimed at envisioning the university’s futures across three different timeframes — 2026, 2036 and 2046.
Officials noted that participants outlined potential ways to achieve these identified futures through a participatory approach.
During the event, Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (Giahs) Center Director Jude Baggo gave an informative session that demystified the tools and processes of FT and SF.
He said the teams representing colleges and support services engaged in planning and applying FT’s approaches of backcasting and visioning.
“The workshop participants probed into emerging issues facing IFSU, analyzing past successes and failures and drawing upon IFSU’s unique strengths as an institution located within a province that homes a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) World Heritage and Giahs sites,” IFSU said on its website.
Meanwhile, IFSU International Affairs and Linkages Office chief Clyde Pumihic noted that the workshop insights will be incorporated into the university’s strategic plan and monitoring systems “to help the university achieve its desired futures in the next two decades.”
