MMSU hosts 3rd intl teacher education conference
THE MARIANO Marcos State University (MMSU) brought educators and scholars from around the world for the “Going for Growth: School, Community, Economy and Nation” conference to discuss how to advance education in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The conference was a collaborative undertaking of the Ilocos Norte university’s College of Teacher Education (CTE), Center for Teaching Excellence, and Internationalization, Linkages and Partnership.
Nina Christelle Sumintac of the MMSU Strategic Communication office said the third international teacher education conference via Zoom and Facebook livestream from February 7 to 9 highlighted the importance of growth and global citizenship among educators.
Thanking the international community of educators who shared their knowledge and expertise during the conference, MMSU International Faculty and Student Mobility chief Jeanette Dials said the 2024 conference also “seeks to contribute further to the UN SDGs.”
“The speakers’ presentations were well-prepared and in line with this year’s theme,” Dials said, adding that the conference accredited under PTR-2018-222-3419 provides 8 units of continuing professional development or CPD for the first 800 registrants.
In his keynote address, Dr. Mouhssine Echcharfy from Chouaib Doukkali University, a public university in El Jadida, Morocco, delved into the intricacies of global citizenship in educational contexts.
The conference on the first day included various speakers who tackled internationalization, neuroscience on student learning and behaviors, different trends and experiences in teaching, inclusive learning, and exploring global perspectives in education.
They were Dr. Peter Ndiang’ui of Florida Gulf Coast University, USA; Dr. Ali Conant of Northern Arizona University, USA; Wilbert Venzon of Institute of Information Technology College; Roberto Layague Jr. of Jose Rizal University; Lucy Ayodo of International Community School, Ghana-Kumasi Campus; Dr. Kirsten Dyck of University of Virginia, USA; and Dr. Saniya Abirin of Western Mindanao State University.
On the second day, the discussions revolved around innovative pedagogies and inclusive education.
The speakers were Dr. Kristen Arnold of Gonzaga University, USA; Dr. Didik Subiyanto of Universitas Sarjanawiyata, Indonesia; Dr. Margana of Yogyakarta State University, Indonesia; Prof. Jareason Fabre of MMSU CTE; Prof.
Macharia Munene of United States International University; Dr. Ronald Candy Lasaten of MMSU CTE; Dr. Anna Saiti of University of West Attica Greece; Dr. Lucy Wandiri Mbirianjau of Kenyatta University, Kenya; Jose Feliciano Josef of FAQRA Academy; and Dr. Pranay Pandey of Bhatter College Dantan Paschim Medinipur, India.
The emerging trends and technologies that shape the future of education were tackled during the conference’s final day.
The speakers were Dr. Fredrick Ssempala of Kabale University, Uganda; Dr. Senowarsito of Universitas PGRI Semarang, Indonesia; Tarisai Tara of MMSU Graduate School; Dr. Gatot Hari Priowirjanto, former director of Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (Seameo); Dr. Susilo Susilo of Mulawarman University, Indonesia; Haya Jahanzeb of Roots International Schools and Colleges, Pakistan; Dr. Riris Setyo Sundari of Universitas OGRI Semarang, Indonesia; and Funke Akpan of Top Fighters Academy, Nigeria.
