Efficient driver’s license renewal process introduced at LTO PITX-Parañaque Licensing Center
IN the past, renewing a driver’s license often felt like navigating a web of bureaucracy at the Land Transportation Office (LTO), which became notorious for fixers and red tape. However, significant changes have swept through the LTO in recent years, aimed at reviving its tarnished reputation and streamlining its operations.
As part of its new information technology (IT) project, the government has implemented a modernized system at the LTO, revolutionizing the license renewal process. This computerized system has dramatically reduced renewal times to under an hour, a stark improvement over the cumbersome procedures of the past.
In addition to the technological overhaul, the LTO has embraced convenience by establishing Licensing Centers in air-conditioned malls. Among the latest additions is the LTO PITX-Parañaque Licensing Center, strategically located on the 2nd floor of the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) along the Coastal Road. Equipped with state-of-theart facilities, this center caters to hundreds of clients daily, offering services ranging from renewals to new applications.
The LTO PITX-Parañaque Licensing Center handles various transactions, including applications for student permits, new driver’s licenses, renewals, changes in license classification and other miscellaneous transactions. Moreover, it provides assistance for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and foreign license owners seeking Philippine licenses, with a dedicated priority lane for OFWs due to the urgency of their documentation for employment abroad.
Ella Bautista, officer in charge of the LTO PITX-Parañaque Licensing Center, emphasized the importance of fulfilling requirements beforehand to expedite the process. Applicants are advised to register an account on the Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) portal, undergo the CDE Online Validation Exam, and obtain a medical certificate from an accredited clinic, conveniently located onsite at the PITX.
Once all prerequisites are met, applicants can proceed to the renewal counter, where biometrics and headshot pictures are taken. Depending on card availability, the LTO can issue temporary licenses or the actual licenses within 20 to 30 minutes.
The LTO PITX-Parañaque Licensing Center operates from Mondays to Saturdays, excluding the third Saturday of each month, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., offering a user-friendly and efficient experience for license renewals.
