DMMMSU joins British Council gathering

- LEANDER C. DOMINGO

DON Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) joined the British Council (BC) Partners Gathering and Inaugural Study UK Alumni Awards and reception dinner at the Blue Leaf Events Pavilion, McKinley Hill in Taguig City.

According to the British Council, the event on February 16 aimed to foster collaboration and networking among educational institutions in the Philippines and their international counterparts.

DMMMSU Information Officer Maricon Viduya said the British Council’s invitation to join the event underscores the recognition of DMMMSU’s “commitment to global engagement and academic excellence.”

Representing DMMMSU were Vice President for Academic and International Affairs Elsie Pacho and International Affairs Director Jesus Rafael Jarata.

“As a leading institution in Region 1 (Ilocos Region), DMMMSU has been actively involved in various international initiatives, including student exchange programs, research collaborations and faculty development opportunities,” Viduya said.

She said in 2021, DMMMSU was among the 17 state universities and colleges (SUCs) in the country and the only SUC in Region 1 to have been selected as a grantee-recipient for the English-medium education and internationalization training under the Access and Competitiveness through Internationalization of Higher Education (ACT-IHE) project.

A new flagship program of the British Council in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd), the ACT-IHE project aims to strengthen the quality of English as a medium of instruction in higher education institutions (HEIs), thus strengthening the internationalization-at-home strategies of the participating institutions.

Under the ACT-IHE project, Viduya said DMMMSU sent three faculty members to the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom for a virtual four-month training.

She said these faculty members also cascaded the training in 2022 to other HEIs in the region as part of their return service to sustain and scale out the project benefits.
