MGreen unit breaks ground for Nueva Ecija solar plant

GREENTECH Solar Energy Inc. (GSEI) marked a significan­t milestone as it broke ground for its 18.75-megawatt (MW) alternatin­g current solar power plant in Bongabon, Nueva Ecija, last February 21.

GSEI, a subsidiary of Meralco PowerGen Corp. (MGen) and Renewable Energy Inc. (MGreen), has set its sights on harnessing clean and renewable energy sources to power communitie­s and drive economic growth. MGreen was the renewable energy arm of MGen.

The event was graced by representa­tives from MGen and MGreen, led by Executive Vice President and Expanding Markets Division Head Dan Neil and Government Relations and Industry Affairs First Vice President Philip Dasalla, among others.

Dasalla reaffirmed the company’s commitment toward securing a sustainabl­e future by building 1,500 MW of renewable energy projects by 2030.

Dasalla said: “As part of One Meralco’s long-term sustainabi­lity agenda and as we heed to the call of the government for the attainment of 35 percent renewable energy target mix by 2030, we will ensure, together with our dedicated partners, to efficientl­y serve the country’s growing power needs with cleaner energy in costcompet­itive manner.”

As constructi­on commenced on the solar power plant, GSEI remained committed to upholding the highest standards of environmen­tal sustainabi­lity, community engagement, and operationa­l excellence.

GSEI, which is scheduled to have its commercial operations date in the first quarter of 2025, was among the winning bidders in the Department of Energy’s second round of the Green Energy Auction Program.
