Muslim-friendly tourism seminar held in Leyte
The Department of Tourism (DoT) Regional Office 8 conducted a Muslim-friendly tourism orientation for invited stakeholders at the Oriental Leyte Hotel on Tuesday.
DoT Undersecretary Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar and other experts provided significant insights on cultural sensitivity, halal-friendly accommodation and services, and other factors that are critical for improving the experience of Muslim travelers in Eastern Visayas.
“As the focal person for Muslim-friendly tourism, I am confident that this is just the beginning of many collaborations with your region,” Abubakar said in her keynote address.
“Eastern Visayas, with its immense potential in cultural and culinary tourism, holds great promise, and I am eager to witness how this region can extend its diverse products and services to our Muslim community,” she added.
This orientation promotes greater knowledge and understanding of the Muslim culture and faith-based behaviors.
The DoT has prioritized the country’s halal tourism portfolio, including its inclusion in the National Tourism Development Plan (NTDP) 2023-2028.
The DoT has also established a variety of services and amenities specifically for Muslim tourists.
“Embracing Muslim-friendly practices ensures that we create an environment where all travelers, regardless of their cultural or religious background, feel welcome and accommodated,” Abubakar said.
“This not only promotes diversity but also enhances the overall tourism experience for everyone involved,” she added.
The Philippines has been identified as the “Emerging Muslim-Friendly Destination of the Year” at the renowned Halal in Travel Global Summit 2023 in Singapore.
