Carlo Biado leads moneymaker list

NEWLY crowned World 10-Ball champion Carlo Biado is leading in the latest money list of billiards players.

On the AZBilliard­s website, Biado is atop the list with $114,000 in earnings.

He first won $25,000, after winning the Universal Chinese Taipei Open in Taipei, Taiwan last January 10 to 12, defeating fellow countryman Bernie Regalario 13-7.

It was followed by a runner-up finish to another Filipino, Lee Vann Corteza, 4-2, 4-3, at the 2024 Alfa Las Vegas Open men’s tournament last February 21 to 24, earning him $14,000.

More recently, just over the weekend, Biado defeated Japan’s Naoyuki Oi 3-1 in sets at the Predator WPA Men’s World 10-Ball Championsh­ips, also in Las Vegas, to receive $75,000 in winnings.

Biado said in an Instagram post on Monday that he owes this victory to God, as well as his wife Niks and his children.

“I owe this all to You, Lord,” Biado said in a mix of Filipino and English. “I said before that my wife is a gift for me. She guided and supported me in my journey. I owe you big time Bebs! And to my kids, this is also for you.”

Apart from Biado, two other Filipino pool players have also made the AZBilliard­s top ten list.

With a total of $41,400 in total winnings, Corteza is the second best ranked Filipino on the list, placing fifth.

He won $30,000 of his money from his victory over Biado at the Alfa Las Vegas Open, and also won a combined $11,400 coming from his tournament­s at the Derby City Classic 2024 ($900 for finishing 16th at the Banks event, $1,600 for finishing 7th at the One Pocket event, $900 for finishing 16th at the 9-Ball tournament and $8,000 for his runner-up finish at the Bigfoot Challenge).

Filipina Chezka Centeno placed eighth on the money leaderboar­d with $24,688 in total winnings and is the third best Filipino on the list.

Other Filipinos in the top 30 included Regalario ($12,000), Roland Garcia ($9,460) and Roberto Gomez ($9,080).
