Lady Bulldogs aim for 4th straight win

- BY NIEL VICTOR C. MASOY The Lady Bulldogs look to continue their fine play as they face

AFTER a season-opening loss to the UST Golden Tigresses, the NU Lady Bulldogs racked up three straight wins, showing their deadly form in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament. the FEU Lady Tamaraws at the Mall of Asia Arena today.

NU takes on FEU at 4 p.m., with their match serving as the main event of a double-header that starts with the battle between the UE Lady Warriors and defending champs DLSU Lady Spikers at 2 p.m.

The Lady Bulldogs blanked the UP Fighting Maroons 25-17, 2516, 25-17 last Saturday to improve to 4-1, good for the third spot in the team standings.

Vange Alinsug dropped 15 points in just two sets while Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon aided her with 10 points each in the contest, with Belen adding 16 excellent receptions and seven digs to her name.

Alinsug, Belen and Solomon clicking together at the same time is exactly what NU head coach Norman Miguel wants.

“It’s crucial for us when that trio (Alinsug, Belen, Solomon) is playing superb. That’s our so-called triangle arsenal. It’s huge when they play superb at the same time, but it’s also a problem when they don’t,” said Miguel in Filipino.

“I’ve been reminding them to play at their best together, but of course it’s hard to ask them for that day in and day out. They’re only humans, after all. However, they need to stay in good shape so they have a good chance of contributing to us.”

Meanwhile, the fourth seed Lady Tamaraws look to recover from a nightmarish collapse against the Golden Tigresses last Sunday.

After winning the first two sets, FEU lost its bearings and yielded to UST in the next three, dropping the match in five sets 25-22, 25-21, 23-25, 20-25, 7-15.

The Lady Tamaraws slid down to 2-2, good for fourth place in the team standings.
