SEC inks partnerships with Tarlac PG, TSU
THE Securities and Exchange Commission-Tarlac Extension Office (SEC-TEO) has signed partnership deals with the provincial government and Tarlac State University (TSU) to promote financial investments.
In signing the memorandum of agreement (MoA) for project SEC Communication, Advocacy and Network (SEC-CAN) at the provincial capitol, Gov. Susan Yap said she is hoping the agreement would help the province strengthen the campaign against scams, illegal financing schemes and money laundering.
SEC-TEO Director Richard Laus said the collaboration will shed light on the fundamentals of investing, financial literacy, investor protection and investment scams.
“SEC-CAN seeks to educate the investing public about their rights and options, encourage entrepreneurs to incorporate and guide them in doing so, and inform stakeholders about the programs, services and other policies the commission implements,” he added.
In the project, SEC commits to provide resource persons and facilitators for the training to be conducted by the provincial government in relation to financial literacy, investor protection and SEC reportorial requirements.
It will also assist the Public Employment Service Office beneficiaries in the registration and compliance with their regulatory requirements.
Yap said the partnership is another welcome development for Tarlac that will ensure better and secured living among residents, especially those who venture in businesses.
At the TSU, Vice President for Academic Affairs Agnes Macaraeg signed a MoA with Laus to promote financial literacy and investor protection advocacies under the SEC-CAN project.
Under the agreement, SEC-TEO and TSU through its College of Business and Accountancy (CBA) will boost the campaign against investment scams and raise awareness on business and capital markets, financial literacy, and smart and sustainable investment.
“The SEC is currently establishing effective linkages, communications and collaborative activities with all stakeholders on investor education, with a view of establishing and sustaining a continuing program aimed at strengthening the presence of SEC and promoting sustainable and inclusive economic growth,” Laus said.
Macaraeg expressed gratitude to the SEC for its loyalty to TSU as the first state university in Regions 2 (Cagayan Valley) and 3 (Central Luzon) to be part of the SEC-CAN initiative.
“We are grateful for your loyalty. Rest assured that because you believe in us, here at TSU, you will be in good hands as we will serve as your partner towards the goodness of your advocacy,” she said.
Through information dissemination, promotion, and knowledge and resource sharing, the SEC-CAN advocacies will highlight topics on the plan.
Also present during the signing ceremony were SEC Securities Specialist 2 Charito Bañez-Santiago, TSU Presidential Assistant Brigido Corpuz and CBA Dean Jhonel Panlilio.
