Gin Kings gun for 2nd win vs Fuel Masters

- RICHARD DY

BARANGAY Ginebra guns for its second straight win when it tangles with a young, but dangerous Phoenix side in the main game of the Season 48 PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Game time is at 6:15 p.m., with the Gin Kings looking to build momentum from their 113-107 triumph over the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters on Friday night.

The boys of coach Tim Cone will again miss the services of do-it-all guard Scottie Thompson due to a back injury.

Still, Ginebra is littered with experienced players who are capable of covering for the absence of Thompson.

Stanley Pringle, Nards Pinto, Maverick Ahanmisi and LA Tenorio are more than able to fill in the absence of the PBA Season 46 Most Valuable Player against a Phoenix side, that is eyeing to bounce back from a 124-120 loss to NorthPort in its debut game last Friday.

The Fuel Masters are coming off a semifinal appearance in the recent Commissioner’s Cup and would want to build on that.

Phoenix will have veteran forward Jason Perkins and RJ Jazz leading the charge, along with young, but reliable guard Tyler

Tio, Javee Mocon, Sean Manganti and rookie Ken Tuffin.

Meanwhile, NorthPort shoots for its third straight win when it faces Meralco in the first game at 3 p.m.

The Batang Pier, composed of young but energetic players, will have sweet-shooting Arvin Tolentino leading the way.

He’ll have Joshua Munzon backing him up, along with rookie bigs Cade Flores and Zavier Lucero.

The Bolts enter the game with a 1-2 record, their lone win courtesy of their 121-117 overtime win over the Elasto Painters last week.
