PDMN reports on China events
PHILIPPINE Dragon Media Network (PDMN) has been reporting on events in China.
One is China’s annual “two sessions” which opened on March 4, 2024 with the commencement of the second session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), signaling the start of a crucial political event in the country’s calendar.
“As China, the world’s secondlargest economy, aims to solidify its economic recovery and continue its journey towards modernization, the significance of these sessions extends far beyond its borders,” PDMN reported.
“Against the backdrop of a determined effort to maintain the momentum of economic recovery, more than 2,000 members of the CPPCC National Committee convened at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Led by Chinese leaders including Xi Jinping, the gathering marked the beginning of deliberations aimed at advancing Chinese modernization through the active exchange of ideas and the building of consensus,” the report continued.
It added that the “two sessions” consist of the meetings of the National People’s Congress (NPC), China’s top legislature, and the CPPCC National Committee.
“Scheduled almost simultaneously in Beijing, these sessions not only set the national agenda for the year but also attract global attention due to their profound implications. The NPC, holding the highest state power in China, will review a government work report outlining past achievements and setting development targets for the upcoming year. Additionally, lawmakers will deliberate on various legislative matters, including a draft development plan, budgets, and revisions to key laws,” it said.
“This year’s ‘two sessions’ hold particular significance as China celebrates the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic and works toward achieving the goals outlined in the 14th Five-Year Plan. Despite challenges, China’s economy demonstrated resilience in 2023, exceeding growth targets and making significant contributions to global economic development,” PDMN reported.
