2 lawmakers to represent PH at UN women’s session
TWO female lawmakers will represent the Philippines in a United Nations session on the Commission on the Status of Women from March 14-22 at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Laguna 1st District Rep. Maria Rene Ann Lourdes Matibag said that she and Bataan 1st District Rep. Geraldine Roman are “honored” to represent the country in the United Nations conference, noting that Filipino women have the “the guts, courage, will power and leadership to make everything better.”
“We are proud to announce with our fellow world leaders that women in our country are being well-respected, equal and honored,” Matibag added.
She said that her district, comprising San Pedro City, is very supportive of women and gender equality.
Matibag and Roman, members of the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender, were selected by the House of Representatives as delegates to the bilateral meeting with Members of the European Parliament during the summit.
Her participation comes as the lawmaker placed third in the latest survey of the RP Mission and Development Foundation “Boses ng Bayan” annual report among lawmakers in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) region, with an 88.8 percent job performance rating.
Matibag has empowered San Pedro through scholarship programs, livelihood projects, infrastructure projects and medical missions.
She also thanked her fellow public servants, including elected and appointed Cabinet officials, for actively serving the country and motivating her to do her job as a public servant.
“It’s really an honor to represent our country in the UN. Women in our country have excelled not only in leadership but also in other fields like fashion, music, arts, entertainment and sports. There are too many to mention, but all of them have brought pride and glory to our nation,” Matibag said.
