Valdez takes it slow with Creamline

- NICOLE ANNE D.G. BUGAUISAN

ALYSSA Valdez is perfectly fine with how the Creamline Cool Smashers are picking up the pace in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2024 All-Filipino Conference.

With the rise of competition in the league as teams fortified their lineup, the defending champions might have had a good 3-0 start — but they also experienced the intensity of each of their opponent.

The Cool Smashers opened their season dropping an extended set against Farm Fresh, then a fourthset match versus Akari, before finally overpowering the Galeries Tower.

The Ceamline team captain is fully aware of their movement in their first three games and wants to absorb all the lessons she can earn in each game. “Our start this conference is very slow and steady, but I guess we will take it. We learn from every game and that is the most important thing,” Valdez said “Every game, we need to improve, and there are many things to correct.”

Creamline finished the last conference unscathed with 18 straight wins, but for Valdez, the season is still long, and she accepts the minor bumps in their first three games.

“We have to accept and take that this is how we (Cool Smashers) played. Eventually, and hopefully, we are going to improve every single game. Coach Sherwin [Meneses] got us, and we will listen to him.”

Valdez stays confident with the veterans of their team as she emphasized that the conference is still long.

With the help of high-caliber gunners Tots Carlos, Michelle Gumabao and Jema Galanza, Creamline wants to remain steady coming to their next games.

“That is one of the advantages of having veterans in our teams. We always joked about it, that we are surely one of the teams that are already been here in PVL for so long. Our team is mostly composed of veterans, so we take that as an advantage for us.”
