Palawan’s 1st district representa­tive dies

Rep. Edgardo Salvame, Palawan’s 1st district representa­tive, died on Wednesday, March 13, at the age of 62.House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez said Salvame’s passing was a huge loss for the country.

“Cong[ressman] Egay was far more than just a fellow lawmaker; he was a true advocate for Palawan, a devoted public servant whose compassion and dedication resonated deeply with those he represente­d,” said Romualdez.

“His commitment, integrity and ceaseless effort to advocate for his constituen­ts have profoundly impacted all of us fortunate enough to have known and worked with him,” added Romualdez, who is also the caretaker of Palawan’s third district following lawmaker Edward Hagedorn’s death.

The House leader said that Salvame “was a trusted companion and a source of inspiratio­n.”

“To Cong. Egay’s family, friends and the people of Palawan, my heart reaches out to you. During this challengin­g time, I hope you find solace in the vast respect, admiration and affection Cong. Egay garnered. His life was a testament to purpose and service, devoted to the betterment of others,” said Romualdez.

Salvame was born in 1962. He was among the vice chairmen of the House Committee on Energy and the House Special Committee on Land Use.

He was a member of the House Committee on Natural Resources, the House Committee on Public Works and Highways, the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms, the House Committee on Tourism, and the House Committee on Veterans Affairs and Welfare.

“As we grieve his passing, let us also take time to honor his life and the significan­t contributi­ons he made. In rememberin­g him, let us commit to continuing the work he was so passionate about, embracing the values he championed,” said Romualdez.

“Cong. Egay’s memory and ideals will continue to guide us, pushing us toward the future he imagined — one filled with optimism, integrity and a relentless dedication to public service,” the House leader added.
