Bini takes Women’s Day by storm
P-Pop girl group releases new EP and announces major concert
MARCH 8 wasn’t just another day for Bini — it was a declaration that they have indeed emerged at the top as the “Nation’s Girl Group.” Facing media in full force on the very date of International Women’s Day this year, the all-girl P-Pop powerhouse counted all the reasons why.
With skyrocketing numbers on Spotify, Bini officially released their long-awaited EP, “Talaarawan,” on the most fitting day and announced that their first major concert would finally unfold at the iconic New Frontier Theater. In other words, they didn’t just drop an album or a headline; they unleashed an anthem for empowerment and a clear statement that every girl can achieve their dreams with honest, hard work.
Bini is comprised of Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna, and Sheena, and this is a quick run-through of the songs in their mini EP, which keep on firing up these once wide-eyed lasses with such talented voices and indefatigable passion to shine bright in the skies.
Bini’s hit single “Pantropiko” solidified the girls’ stardom, dominating charts and igniting dance crazes from Manila to Manhattan. When K-Pop royalty like Irene of Red Velvet and Ryujin of ITZY take notice, you know you’re onto something big.
“We released this single in November [even though] ‘Pantropiko’ is a summer song. But we felt like the timing was perfect because it’s topping the charts as summer is now approaching. Hopefully, this momentum continues,” Jhoanna expressed.
The fact is, Bini’s momentum has gone full speed, given how the selection of tracks in their EP shows that they’re not just about catchy beats and viral hits.
With “Talaarawan,” the girls are now considered storytellers and crazy good ones at that as “Salamin, Salamin,” “Ang Huling Cha Cha,” “Na Na Nandito Lang” and “Diyan Ka Lang” bare their souls, exploring love, friendship, and the wild ride of youth, hitting listeners with all the right feels.
Preceptively, the girls didn’t just talk about music at the Women’s Day Q&A — they talked about connection. In gratitude to their fans, they explained how they meant for their songs to share
their dreams and fears with them and draw them closer. Thus, the title “Talaarawan,” Filipino for diary, is used.
And with the announcement that their much-awaited first major concert is finally happening on June 28, their message for their fellow women is that they, too, can.
As Mikka encapsulated in her closing, “Our advocacy is women empowerment. We always want to inspire women and we want to make sure that they are confident in their own skin. That’s why I think March 8 is the perfect date to come out [with all these things about us].”
