Lopa: Rereading James Clavell’s “Shogun,” a favorite from my teens, to keep up with the remake of the TV series.

Periquet: I tend to go for nonfiction, so I read “The Houses That Sugar Built,” about houses built with sugar money in the Philippine­s in the early part of the 20th century.

Periquet: I dove head-first into the sea from a diving rock when I was maybe 13 or 14 years old.
