THE provincial government of Bulacan, through the Provincial Youth and Sports Development Office (PYSDO), has formally launched the Bulacan University and Collegiate Athletic Association (Bucaa) on Thursday, March 14, at the EDSA Shangri-La in Ortigas, Mandaluyong.
With the athletic loop, the province hopes to shape new and talented young athletes for bigger competitions.
Gov. Daniel Fernando, who is the chairman of Bucaa, led the official launching of the Bucaa, which aims to consolidate all programs and projects related to sports development to support the talented young athletes in the province.
Universities and colleges teams are entered in a basketball competition that began on Friday, March 15, at the Bulacan Sports Complex in Barangay Dakila, City of Malolos.
Fernando said the Bucaa will be expanded by including other sports events such as of volleyball, swimming, badminton, table tennis, chess, among others.
The governor said that this will provide opportunities for Bulakenyo youth who want to hone and increase their skills and readiness in the field of sports.
“Here in Bucaa, we aim for three things: Championing Self-growth; Championing School Pride and
Championing Bulakenyo Spirit,” the governor said.
According to Fernando, it was organized by the provincial government to support and guide Bulacan athletes in their respective careers and to shape the next generation of better athletes and strengthen the unity of those in the field of sports.
“Bulacan is known as ‘Home of the Champions’ such as Lydia de Vega, Bobby Jose, Rodney Santos, Jonas Villanueva, and countless awards have been won by Bulacan athletes, so we want to strengthen and hone at a young age the sports potential of our youth,” said the governor.
Vice Gov. Alexis Castro, as co-chairman of Bucaa, expressed his full support to the program, believing that the next famous players to be recognized in the country in the future will be Bulakenyo.
Nikki Coronel, officer in charge PYSDO head, said the Bucaa was established to recognize the importance of holistic youth development and foster sports advancement in support of many talented young athletes in the province.
Currently, Bucaa consists of 32 universities and colleges that will participate in basketball tournament and 10 colleges that will participate in the Cheerdance Competition.
