Latter-day Saints temple unveiled in Urdaneta

- FRANCO JOSE C. BAROÑA

THE local media was given the rare chance to get a glimpse inside the newly constructed temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan.

The Urdaneta temple is the third Latter-day Saints temple in the country, the first in Northern Luzon and the 190th in the entire world.

It is located in the southern part of the city along MacArthur Highway.

Carlos Revillo Jr., one of the eight global Church leaders, gave the media a tour of the newly built temple of the Latter-day Saints, also known as the LDS movement.

The open house, Revillo said, will give people of all faiths the opportunity to tour the temple’s interior and grounds and learn about the purpose of these sacred structures.

”The building’s style combines Asian influences with a modern interpretation of local Spanish colonial elements,” said Revillo, who is a General Authority Seventy of the Church.

The construction of the temple began in February 2019.

Adjacent to the temple is a 2,099-square-meter auxiliary building. It was here where members of the media were welcomed by Church leaders and were given a brief presentation about the structure.

The building includes an arrival center and housing for LDS members who must travel long distances to worship at the temple.

The auxiliary building contains apartments for the volunteer temple residency, who manages the temple’s day-to-day operations. There is also a distribution center where Church members can purchase ceremonial clothing, scriptures and gospel study material.
