CALASIAO, Pangasinan: Twenty candidates for this year’s “Limgas na Pangasinan” were presented to the media on Sunday, March 17, at the Monarch Hotel here.

During the question-and-answer session with the media, the candidates showed confidence, grace and wit, which was typical of what a Pangasinan woman should be.

“Limgas” is the Pangasinan word for “beauty.”

The ladies expressed their thoughts on some issues, shared nuggets of wisdom and showed their potentials to earn the titles of Darling of the Press, Miss Photogenic and Limgas na Pangasinan.

Vice Gov. Mark Ronald Lambino, who represented Gov. Ramon Guico 3rd, said that the best way to represent the beauty, grace and capability of the province will be through the Limgas pageant.

Pangasinan’s first lady Maan Tuazon Guico, Limgas na Pangasinan Committee chairman, said that the pageant aims to encourage women to be independent, to focus on their beliefs and to give them purpose.

The event will also showcase the culture, arts and tourism of the province.

Guico expressed hope the candidates will have an advocacy and a heart to serve the province.

She said that every year, they do charity work as part of the pageant.

This year, they went to Pototan Elementary School in Binmaley town to fix the school’s water system. They also provided hygiene kits and grocery packs to residents there.

The top three Limgas na Pangasinan winners will have a chance to work with the three well-known designers.

They will also be the province’s representatives to the Miss World, Miss Grand International and Mutya ng Pilipinas beauty pageants.

They will also receive cash prizes, while the local government units of winning candidates will receive financial grants from the province.
