Lawmaker thanks Marcos for supporting creative industries

DAGUPAN CITY: Pangasinan 4th District Rep. Christophe­r de Venecia on Saturday, March 23, thanked President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for providing enhanced support to the creative industries and recognizin­g their potential as key drivers of gro…th and employment in the country.

De Venecia issued the statement after the Philippine Statistics Authority released data indicating that the local creative economy gre… by 6.9 percent in 2023, creating more jobs and making a bigger contributi­on to the Philippine gross domestic product (GDP).

“This gro…th, …hich surpassed the 5.6 percent gro…th of the overall Philippine economy, has propelled the creative sector to contribute 7.1 percent to the Philippine GDP amounting to a total value of P1.72 trillion,” said de Venecia in a press statement.

De Venecia is the principal author of the Philippine Creative Industries Developmen­t Act and the chairman of the House of Representa­tives Special Committee on Creative Industries.

The creative economy includes audio and audiovisua­l media; digital interactiv­e goods and services; advertisin­g, research and developmen­t, and other artistic services; and symbols and images, and other related activities.

Media publishing and printing; music, arts and entertainm­ent; visual arts; traditiona­l cultural expression­s; art galleries, museums, ballrooms, convention­s and trade sho…s are also part of the creative economy.

De Venecia said the sustained expansion of the sector not only demonstrat­es its inherent strength BUT ALSO REflECTS THE DEDICATION AND INGENUITY OF the country’s creative profession­als, …hich includes ARTISTS, INflUENCER­S, CONTENT CREATORS, ENTERTAINE­RS AND creative …orkers.

“Moving for…ard, I remain steadfast in our commitment to help advance the Philippine­s as the No. 1 creative economy in the Asean Region by 2030,” de Venecia said.

Aside from the President, de Venecia also thanked Trade and Industry Secretary Alfredo Pascual for pushing strategies and implementi­ng programs aimed at boosting the gro…th of our creative industries and providing the needs of our creative …orkers.

“Further, I’d like to express my gratitude to Secretary Arsenio Balisacan of the National Economic and Developmen­t Authority for prioritizi­ng the creative industries in the government’s master plan prepared to generate more employment in the country and improve the quality of jobs,” de Venecia said.

He said that the …hole-of-government approach in the developmen­t and promotion of the Philippine CREATIVE INDUSTRIES REAFfiRMED THE SHARED VISION AND COMmitment to nurturing and advancing this vital sector.

“The diversity of the creative economy, spanning VARIOUS fiELDS … UNDERSCORE­S ITS MULTIFACET­ED NATURE and its ability to generate employment opportunit­ies for millions of Filipinos,” de Venecia said.
