10 outstanding women in Cagayan Valley recognized
TUGUEGARAO CITY: Ten women were honored for their contribution to the economic development and poverty alleviation in the region during the 12th IDDU Honor Roles Awardees held at the DPWH New Conference Hall in this city on Friday, March 22.
The IDDU (love in Ibanag) awardees were Mabuwaya Foundation operations manager Marites Balbas (environment); Cagayan resident Jail Supt. Maria Lourdes Pacion (law enforcement), who is assigned at the Manila City Jail; Tuguegarao City Agriculturist Evangeline Calubaquib (science and technology); Science and Technology-Region 1 (Ilocos Region) Regional Director Teresita Tabaog (gender and development); farm operator Dauphine Alviar (agriculture); civic group president Corazon Xy-za Escobar (humanitarian service); retired Population Commission deputy executive director Mia Ventura (public service); school master teacher Jenifer Oliquiano (education); recording artist Ruth Lee Resuello (culture and arts); and Quirino provincial administrator Carmelita Jimenez (local governance).
The judges selected the 10 honorees from the list of nominees throughout the Cagayan Valley for their “outstanding contributions to women empowerment, poverty alleviation, community development, advocacy and unity.”
The women’s roles and services as champions of gender equality and support for women’s advancement every day and not just during Women’s Month have been acknowledged during the event.
Regional Director Angely Mercado said the Philippine Information Agency in Region 2 (Cagayan Valley) recognized the “exemplary women in the region for their outstanding achievements in their chosen careers and advocacies,” adding to the previous 110 honorees in the past years.
Started in March 2012, the annual IDDU Honor Roles Award was established to recognize women for their exemplary performances and outstanding achievements which continue to serve as inspiration and model to the rest of the women sector.
Guest speaker Zsa-Zsa Meneses, a former IDDU awardee, said the award for the women’s unique contribution to society “will set an example for others as a model of change and development.”
