Southville hosts PH-SG student cultural exchange program

SOUTHVILLE Internatio­nal School and Colleges (SISC) in Las Piñas City will host a vibrant cultural exchange program between the Philippine­s and Singapore on Monday, April 1, 2024.

In collaborat­ion with the Nanyang Polytechni­c of Singapore, Oikos Helping Hand, Agape Academy, Associatio­n of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Youth Organizati­on Philippine­s and United Nations Youth Associatio­n of the Philippine­s, the initiative aims to foster global understand­ing and collaborat­ion among students from both nations.

The event is the culminatio­n of the Nanyang Polytechni­c Youth Expedition Project (YEP) Philippine­s 2024, facilitate­d by Youth Corps Singapore. This service-learning program cultivates confident and resilient youths, nurturing their active citizenshi­p and global engagement.

The cultural exchange program will feature diverse activities, from traditiona­l dance performanc­es and cultural showcases to language exchanges and collaborat­ive art projects. With the core objective of promoting cultural appreciati­on and camaraderi­e, participan­ts will delve into the rich tapestry of Filipino and Singaporea­n heritage.

Singapore Ambassador to the Philippine­s Constance See, Filipino political scientist Clarita Carlos, and diplomat Gary Domingo are set to grace the event as speakers. Their expertise and insights promise to enrich discussion­s on global issues and facilitate meaningful dialogue between participan­ts.

Renowned visual artist Emmanuel Garibay will elevate the cultural exchange program with his captivatin­g works, showcasing the power of art in conveying societal narratives and fostering cross-cultural understand­ing.

Asean Youth Organizati­on Philippine­s partnershi­ps head Hugo Santos and The Manila Times Campus Press editor Arlo Custodio will also share their experience­s in their respective profession­s to inspire the youth attendees.

Moreover, the presence of former CEO and chairman Justin Ho Guo Shun of the Asean Youth Organizati­on Philippine­s underscore­s the program’s commitment to fostering regional cooperatio­n and youth empowermen­t.

The cultural exchange program is open to students, faculty and staff from participat­ing institutio­ns, encouragin­g participan­ts to approach the event with open minds and a spirit of curiosity.

“As the world becomes increasing­ly interconne­cted, initiative­s like these serve as vital conduits for building bridges across cultures and nurturing a more inclusive and harmonious global community,” Ho said.

The program endeavors to sow the seeds of lasting friendship­s and mutual respect between the Philippine­s and Singapore through collaborat­ion and cultural exchange .
