CHERYL TIU

Multi-platform Media Practitioner

-

Nothing brings the world closer and more tightly bound than cuisines that fulfill in more ways than one. Charting travels in different parts of the globe, content creator, journalist and multimedia practitioner Cheryl Tiu has probably seen it all but what she holds near and dear from miles and miles of discovery are the food she gets to eat, which prompted her to create Cross Cultures, an events platform under that was founded based on the universal fact that food is the most accessible way to exchange culture. A sharing of culinary experiences and talents between chefs and cooks, this effort closes in the Philippines to the world unlike ever before.

“I think that social media is a great new way to communicate, influence and inspire. I generally do lifestyle but heavily involved in food and travel,” begins Cheryl. “I think one of the first insights into a new country and culture is through food—by tasting it—and through my social media posts and the founding of Cross Cultures—that’s one of my goals to be able to help build a global community through it.”

Cheryl is in her element most when she is on yet another adventure to some enviable locale somewhere in the far reaches of the globe. “It isn’t so much just about hopping onto a plane, checking into a hotel and then doing some shopping—well, at least for me anyway,” she says. “Rather, travel is all about opening doors to a wealth of experiences, cultures and people, wherein somehow and in some way, you get to know yourself a lot better, and likewise bask in God’s absolute perfection through the wonders of the world.”

Traveling does wonders for the human soul, that much we know. But more than stepping out of one’s own safe space and seeing a side of the world that is different from ours, traveling opens you up in ways you haven’t known before—offering an introspection that connects your mind, heart and spirit and realizing uncovered truths unlike ever before, just like the way Cheryl has done for the Philippines and yes, the rest of the world in effect. —ARDC
