HINDY WEBER-TANTOCO + MARCO LOBREGAT + KAT AND DAVID AZANZA

-

Hindy Weber-Tantoco and Marco Lobregat first caught our attention in the fashion and social scenes, but they had their eye on other things—like providing work for local farmers, green farming, offering sustainable development in the agricultural sector and providing us with healthy, organic produce. Of her Holy Carabao! Farms, Hindy says that “farmers should get paid at least as much as our doctors. Our health is so dependent on what we eat.”

Meanwhile, Marco now works with Mahalin Pagkaing Atin, a food and tourism advocacy group. Previous to that, his wildly popular Ministry of Mushrooms helped Pinoys appreciate locally-farmed mushrooms and was a beacon to other similar-minded groups.

While Hindy and Marco invade our homes, Kat and David Azanza are setting shop in our second homes—the malls. With the ambitious goal of having Filipino’s “rethink their relationship with food,” Kat and David are trying to get locals to choose salads via their chain of Juju Eats restaurants and cult-favorite Juju Cleanse juices. It’s a daunting task, but Kat and David are unperturbed, saying “If we’re not scared, then we’re not pushing ourselves hard enough.”

These are just some of the people leading the Healthy Food Revolution, which to Filipinos, might as well be a full-blown Healthy Food Rebellion. But like any cause worth fighting for, the future health of Filipinos is all that is at stake. So whose side are you on?—AS
