We talked to former Metro cover girls Nanette Medved-Po and Maricar ReyesPoon about their modern- day careers, their passions, and everything in between. This is what we found out

Business can be a force for good. Nanette is the founder of HOPE, a social enterprise that donates

100 percent of its profits to building public school classrooms. An unusual career for a former actress some may think, but Nanette finds fulfillmen­t in what she does. “Being the founder of HOPE is a 24/7 job, which is fine since I love what I do. I decided on this path because I firmly believe that there is room for business to be a force for good.”

Women should step out of their comfort zones.

She could have chosen to continue on the path of stardom, but opted to make use of her influence to effect change and contribute to the common good. When asked about what advice she’d give women who set aside passions for fear of failure, she quips, “I always try to live from my deathbed—doing my best to minimize regret. It’s not going to be perfect, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.”

We love asking women what they’d tell their 18-year-old selves, and part of what she said was that she should have used more sunblock! Now this we’d have to agree with. She adds, “Be patient, everything happens for a reason.” Nanette shares that work, massages, having nails done, eating what she wants, and yoga are some of her self-love practices. But she told us that her top self-care practice would have to be prayer.
