ACT to Mayor Sara: ‘If there’s a will, there’s a way’...

- BY JULIANNE A. SUAREZ

THE ALLIANCE of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Davao Region is not yet done with Mayor Sara Duterte despite her statement that she would no longer talk with the group.

The group posted “Kung gusto may paraan, kung ayaw may dahilan” (If there’s a will, there’s a way) in its official account over the weekend.

In a press conference last week, Duterte told reporters, “I will not talk to them to them anymore, I will not validate their existence.”

Duterte said she “was hurt because they lied,” referring to the claims of ACT Davao that they did not receive any monetary support from the local government.

“They released a statement saying the city government does not give them anything, which is not true because we give them P2,000 every year,” Duterte said.

However, the group slammed the mayor’s statement saying a dialogue with her does not matter as long as she gives their

request.

“It’s not really that much a big problem if the Mayor won’t talk to ACT Davao as long as she gives public school teachers the much-needed local allowance to help them cope with ever increasing prices of commodities and to counter the imbalance in their salary as compared to police officers,” the group said in another Facebook post yesterday.

To Duterte, she would rather talk to the head of city’s Department of Education rather than the group.

“They can rally anytime because we have freedom of speech as long as they do not violate any laws. Anyway, they are just a single group from the whole DepEd Teachers. If I really, really want to talk, I will talk to Maria Ines Asuncion because she is the Schools Division Superintendent,” the Mayor said.

The ACT-Teachers party-list has been critical to the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte, Sara’s father.
