‘High’ rocker collared for drugs

A VOCALIST of an emerging rock band called Just Got High was arrested for illegal drugs at a checkpoint in Bunawan District on Saturday.

Police identified the suspect as Dariel Gumantason Oboza, 27, single and resident of Purok 10, Lizada Street, Barangay Tomas Monteverde, Agdao District.

Task Force Davao agents under its Task Group Lawin, led by S/ Sgt Thomas Torrico, arrested Oboza around 1 a.m. on Saturday in a checkpoint in Sitio Licanan, Barangay Lasang, Bunawan District.

Col. Nolasco Mempin, TFD commander, said Oboza was found carrying a pack of dried leaves of marijuana, estimated to weigh 5 grams.

He said the suspect was on board a white KIA Bongo, bearing plate number MAA 7286 driven by Karl John Anonuevo Umayao, 30, single, and resident of Anahaw, Barangay Buhangin Proper, Buhangin District.

The suspect and his group came from Panabo City, Davao del Norte. The band reportedly performed in an all-star show featuring Davao groups highlighte­d by Popong Landero, a known Davao-based recording artist, at ARF Gym in Panabo on Friday

evening.

Upon reaching the inspection area, CAA II Daniel Mayagma noted that suspect was acting suspicious­ly as if he was trying to hide his sling bag from being inspected.

During the inspection, Mayagma found dried leaves wrapped in paper.

The suspect and item were turned over to the Bunawan Police Precinct for proper dispositio­n and appropriat­e action.
