Meal of CHAMPIONS
With the pace of people's lifestyles today, breakfast is almost always neglected. Let these two dining spots remind you why breakfast is often touted as the most important meal of the day
Breakfast and Pies
It's important to get the name right: It's Pi (as in the mathematical 3.14) Breakfast
and Pies. That little pi sign there isn't just a decoration! This is the Pino Group's latest venture and offers exactly what it says on the tin—breakfast favorites and delicious dessert pies. The interior of Breakfast and Pies is different from most all-day breakfast places. Instead of dainty pastels and flowery wallpaper, you'll find dark wood and black-and-white tile flooring. It is remarkably masculine, yet somehow the combination works, giving the restaurant a rustic feel similar to the mom-and-pop pie shacks abroad.
The food is just as interesting as the interiors. The menu is made up of breakfast staples with unique twists like the Chicken and Waffles (P165), which has corn kernels and jalapeños mixed in with the waffle batter, topped with blueberries, strawberries, julienned Granny Smith apples, maple sour cream, and crispy chicken skin. For a silog- style meal with a twist, try the Caramelized Spam (P245) which has garlic fried rice, kimchi, six-minute egg, pesto, scallions, and of course, cubes of salty-sweet Spam.
The pie display is also something to behold as it holds eight pies at a time. Among these are popular diner staples like Apple Gruyere Pie, Banana Cream Pie (P95/slice, P675 whole pie), Key Lime Pie (P135/slice, P995 whole), Candy Bar Pie, and Crack Pie (P115/slice, P1,150 whole).
