A HECTIC YET WELLBALANCED LIFE

-

Mia gets back home just in time for dinner with her husband and kids. She might be a working mom with a very demanding job, but she still finds time to be hands- on when it comes to the children. She helps out Bastin with his homework, tells the kids a story, then tucks them into bed. " What is important for us is to be involved and present in our children’s lives. I feel that being present is one of the best gifts we can give our kids."

From answering their questions, to something as simple as playing with them, Mia and Mike constantly try to engage their children and give them the attention that they deserve. However, parenting is not all fun and games. Mia has some rules that both children have to follow. More importantly, she is consistent with implementing them. " Even if it may be difficult at times, I realize that I can also be firm with my kids if I have to. I know this will benefit our children in the long run."

A clear example is the fact that Bastin and Cio are only allowed to have sugary treats like soda and candies during weekends and special occasions. Young as they are, they understand why their mother has implemented this rule. They do not push it, and even self- govern by refusing sweets when offered.

As Mia's day is usually packed, she gets to have her " me" time when everybody else is asleep. Mia surfs the ' net, reads a few magazines, and catches up with her friends via social media. In between, she tries to squeeze in some personal projects. " My son just told me he wants to be a

taho vendor for Halloween," she says, explaining that she is trying to figure out how to put together Bastin's and Cio's Halloween costumes without spending a fortune.

What is important for us is to be involved and present in our children’s lives. I feel that being present is one of the best gifts we can give our kids.
