Pisay Brings the Wonders of Science to Palawan

-

Science is fun, and the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) System, known as Pisay, is bringing it to the largest province in the country, Palawan. The PSHS System will be conducting the 2018 Science Research Summit on September 28-30 at Skylight Convention Center, Puerto Princesa, Palawan, with the theme: “Science for the People”. The Summit aims to increase the community’s knowledge and appreciation of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) by convening PSHS scholars around the country and students from Palawan. It intends to encourage students to explore the wonders of STEM through research and innovation. During the summit, the PSHS scholars through an intercompetition, will present their notable researches through oral and poster presentations before a panel of judges on September 29. Grades 10-12 students from DepEd schools in Palawan were invited as observers. Through the presentations, the DepEd students will be given the chance to take a glimpse of notable technical PSHS research projects and gain valuable inputs from the judges/experts during the question and answer portion. On September 30, there will be a Community Fair which will be opened to the public. This is an interactive activity where students from PSHS will showcase their researches to the visitors. Grades 5 and 6 students are highly encouraged to visit the fair for them to have a glimpse of the different STEM researches and how these can uplift the community. Kids can also learn from the exhibitors the basics of conducting researches and possible challenges that may be encountered along the way. The Science Research Summit is one way of bringing science closer to the hearts of the people and in promoting science and technology which is one of the goals of the Department of Science and Technology. The project will be conducted in close coordination with DepEd. For more information or to signify interest to join this event, you may call (02) 939 7747 or email oed@pshs.edu.ph.
