Narra commences construction of new public market

Narra mayor Lucena Demaala said they have started the Phase I construction of their new public market in a 4,000-square meter lot property in Barangay Poblacion.

Demaala said Thursday that the new market has the size comparable to six covered gyms that will house different sections.

“Isang building lang sa more or less 4,000 square meters [property]. Ang capacity nyan kung iko-compare mo ay anim na covered court ang laki nyan. Iha-house sa ilalim nito ang lahat, fish, grain, vegetable, meat, dried fish, fruit section at saka ‘yong iba pang pwedeng i-accommodate doon,” she said.

Demaala said the building is planned to be constructed with only a ground floor.

She added the municipal government has already constructed a covered court to serve as the “tabuan” area and for the conceptualized night market.

After the construction of the new public market is completed, the old building will be demolished to give way to a two-storey bank or commercial buildings.

“After that, kung matatapos ‘yang building na ‘yan, ‘yong mga dating fish, meat, vegetable sec- tion, gigibain na ‘yan to give way naman sa mga two-storey building na pwedeng mag-house ng bangko, offices or boutique,” she added.

Demaala has not yet given any assurance if the construction will be finished within the year.

She added planning officials will be sent to observe market sectioning in different public markets in Manila to acquire some ideas that would give convenience to vendors and consumers.

Demaala also mentioned that she included a parking lot on the perimeter of the market.

According to her, the initial budget for the construction is at P38 million which may be aug- mented next year as need arises.

As noted in her Facebook post, Demaala said the ongoing construction was funded from the municipal surplus of the 20162017 budget and from the 2019 market development fund (MDF).

She said that they have done the inventory of current occupants from the old market that will be transferred to the new market and there are also available spaces to offer for other interested vendors.

“Meron na kaming inventory sa market na mga nagtitinda ngayon, sa estimate naman ng ano ko ay makaka-generate kami ng stall para sa mga gusto rin magtinda,” she pointed out.
