‘Kap’, treasurer accused of fund malversati­on

ILOILO City – The barangay captain and former treasurer of Cubay, Jaro district face graft charges before the Office of the Ombudsman.

The barangay council supposedly released a total of P4.5 million for the honoraria and cl aims of barangay councilmen, barangay tanods, those whose services the council tapped such as janitors, and for other transactio­ns but the money did not reach the intended recipients, claimed complainan­t Ramil Aposaga.

Aposaga, c ouncilman of Barangay Cubay, charged Barangay Captain Renato Villegas and former barangay treasurer Jessie Nacionales with malversati­on of public funds thru falsificat­ion of public documents, grave abuse of authority, gross neglect of duty, and violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.

The amount i nvolved reached P4.5 million, said Aposaga, citing a Commission on Audit (COA) report.
