ILOILO City – Closed circuit television ( CCTV) cameras can help hasten solve crimes, according to the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).

Their recordings c an give leads on the criminals’ identities and how crimes were carried out, explained Senior Inspector Shella Mae Sangrines, ICPO spokesperson.

CCTVs, thus, are tools police investigators must use to their advantage, she stressed.

San grin es also said security cameras can deter the commission of crimes.

Criminals maybe discouraged if they see CCTVs recording their activities, she explained.

But with or without security cameras around, people must be conscious of

o their safety, said Sangrines.

Vigilance is the best way to avoid being victimized by criminals, she stressed.

In a bid to curb robberies and other criminal activities in the city, the city government came up with Regulation Ordinance No. 2011- 307 six years ago that required business establishments to have security cameras. These establishments include banks, money changers, pawnshops, gasoline s t ations, 24/ 7 convenience stores, transport terminals, and stores selling liquor.

An oversight body tasked with the approval, control and supervision of all CCTV use and installation in the city was also formed./
